With one match left in the series, South Africa defeated Australia by 32 runs in the second ODI at Wanderers Stadium on Sunday, September 27. Australia was held to 333 as the hosts scored 365 for 9 in their 50 overs, making it their sixth consecutive bilateral series victory over the opposition.
Following the game, South Africa’s captain, Temba Bavuma, offered his thoughts on the team’s performance. The captain scored 103 off 116 balls with 10 fours and two sixes, making it his first century in ODIs at home. But David Miller took the stage with his lightning-fast 142 runs in 92 balls. Another excellent team effort, in my opinion. Although it was a little challenging at first, we overcame it and reached that sum. We were motivated by David, and it was amazing,” Temba Bavuma remarked.

In the innings, David Miller scored a career-high 142, and he and Temba Bavuma shared a fourth-wicket partnership of 156 runs that was crucial in increasing South Africa’s total. As part of the Pink Day campaign, each player donned a shirt bearing the name of a cancer fighter or survivor, making Miller’s performance especially noteworthy.
Despite the hosts’ impressive batting performance, Temba Bavuma praised the team’s bowling effort for limiting Australia. The skipper stated that Aiden Markram, Keshav Maharaj, and Bjorn Fortuin successfully complemented the bowling attack, adding that spin was a major factor in Australia’s demise.For the first ten [overs], they maintained composure. We were aware that they would put pressure on us, but we also knew that a few wickets would put them at a disadvantage. Thus, again another overall team effort,” Temba Bavuma remarked.
