The Indian women’s cricket team has clinched the gold medal by defeating Sri Lanka at the Asian Games. The final match in the women’s category took place on September 22 at the Karogi Sports Park in Nishin, where the ‘Women in Blue’ defeated Sri Lanka by a massive margin of 147 runs.

Batting first, Harmanpreet Kaur and her team set a target of 217 runs for Sri Lanka. In response, the Sri Lankan women’s team was bowled out for just 69 runs against India’s superb bowling attack. Despite the defeat, however, they secured the silver medal. Earlier, Pakistan had defeated Bangladesh in the bronze medal match.
Regarding the match details, the Indian women’s team won the toss and elected to bat. The team displayed excellent batting prowess, posting a total of 216 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs.
Openers Shafali Verma (48) and Smriti Mandhana (79) gave India a strong start by sharing a 99-run partnership for the first wicket. However, captain Harmanpreet Kaur could only contribute 19 runs.
Towards the end, Richa Ghosh played a blistering unbeaten knock of 49 runs off 22 balls—featuring six fours and three sixes—playing a pivotal role in taking the team’s score past the 200-run mark. For Sri Lanka, Sugandika Kumari, Kavisha Dilhari, and Chamudi Praboda claimed one wicket each.
Subsequently, when Sri Lanka set out to chase the formidable target of 217 runs, their batting lineup crumbled like a house of cards against India’s brilliant bowling. The entire team was bowled out for just 69 runs in 15.4 overs. Captain Chamari Athapaththu played the highest-scoring innings for Sri Lanka, contributing 29 runs. Meanwhile, the Indian women’s team displayed excellent bowling; experienced Deepti Sharma claimed three wickets, while Shafali Verma, Shreyanka Patil, and Sri Charani took two wickets each.
