Prior to the third and final One-Day International (ODI) against South Africa in Potchefstroom, Australia has experienced two consecutive injury setbacks. Fast bowler Nathan Ellis and left-arm spinner Joel Davies have both been ruled out of the game.

During the second ODI in Johannesburg, Nathan Ellis was taken off the pitch after just four overs due to a left side discomfort. South Africa went on to post 365 and win the three-match series 2-0, but he did not return to finish his stint. Nathan Ellis will return to Australia for more evaluation and treatment, according to ANI, with the goal of recuperating in time for the home ODI series against England, which starts on November 13.

Davies did not play in any of the tour’s matches despite travelling to South Africa as the team’s second specialist spinner. Before playing domestic cricket with New South Wales again, he will return home for rehabilitation after suffering a hamstring strain while fielding as a substitute during the same Johannesburg match. Prior to Wednesday’s game in Potchefstroom, Australia has not announced any substitutes for Ellis or Davies.

In this touring ensemble, Ellis’s side strain is not an isolated occurrence. Ellis is the second Australian fast bowler to sustain a side strain during the trip; Billy Stanlake had already been ruled out with a similar injury during the second ODI in Zimbabwe. The repetition highlights how the pace attack is physically taxed in back-to-back series under different circumstances.

Before his injury, Ellis had been Australia’s best bowler during the tour’s Zimbabwe and South Africa legs, thus his absence would be a major setback for the last game. Beyond the goal of being fit for the England series in November, no precise recuperation schedule has been established, and no substitute has been announced for the Potchefstroom match.

Australia has four fit specialist fast bowlers going into the Potchefstroom match because Nathan Ellis and Davies are out. Mitchell Starc, who was rested for the first two ODIs, is also slated to play, and Pat Cummins is anticipated to make a comeback. The availability of Inglis for the Test series against South Africa, which is set to start on October 9, has not been disclosed.

In addition, the Australian There has also been movement with a squad now touring India. In preparation for the Sheffield Shield season, Brendan Doggett, Fergus O’Neill, and Campbell Kellaway are going back to their home states. The second unofficial Test against India A in Puducherry, which began on Tuesday, is scheduled to include Sam Harper, Jhye Richardson, and Liam Hatcher. Will Sutherland and Riley Meredith have been added to the Australia Aaron Hardie and Jack Edwards will be replaced by a one-day squad for three games starting next Tuesday.
