The England cricket team has suffered a major setback ahead of the tri-series scheduled to take place in Pakistan next month. Experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury. Notably, the player sustained this injury during the second ODI against Sri Lanka at Headingley on September 26.

Initially, he had to leave the field as ‘retired hurt’ due to the injury but later returned to bat. However, following confirmation of a serious hamstring injury, he has been forced to withdraw from the upcoming tour. This injury had already kept him out of the third ODI against Sri Lanka at The Oval. Furthermore, doubts have now arisen regarding his participation in the tour of Australia scheduled for November.
Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that the full extent of the hamstring issue is not yet known, and no date has been set for his return. The ECB has clarified that they will not speculate on Jos Buttler’s recovery timeline until a comprehensive medical assessment is completed.

In Jos Buttler’s absence, Jordan Cox took over wicketkeeping duties during the third ODI against Sri Lanka. Cox made an immediate impact during the match at The Oval on Sunday; in the series-deciding game, he played a valuable innings of 76 runs and played a pivotal role in securing a victory for his team.
