In preparation for the Ranji Trophy 2026–2027 season, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has selected wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel for practice matches. After being released on bail, the selection, which was made public on September 29, 2026, represents his return to Bengal’s cricket team.
After around three and a half years of dating, a medical student filed a complaint saying that Porel, 23, had sex on the promise of marriage. This led toAbishek Porel’s arrest in August 2026. All accusations have been refuted by Porel, and legal action is still pending. According to the CAB, a player is still qualified for selection as long as there is no record of a conviction.

Why was Abishek Porel excluded off Bengal’s last roster?
Abishek Porel was left off of the CAB’s August 22, 2026, senior probables list. His arrest earlier that month led to that conclusion. His return to Bengal’s formal cricket structure since the start of the case is currently represented by his inclusion in the practice match team.
On September 18, 2026, the Chinsurah court granted Porel bail following over a month of judicial imprisonment. The CAB has said that in cases where there is no conviction, eligibility for selection is unaffected by ongoing legal processes. Even though the court case is still pending, Porel’s reinstatement is in line with that principle.
At the domestic level, Porel has a solid record in all formats. He has amassed 1,408 runs at an average of 31.28 in 32 first-class cricket matches, with 1 century and 12 fifties. His List A stats, which include two hundreds and five fifties, are as outstanding: 833 runs at an average of 43.84 in 23 games.

Porel, who plays for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, has amassed 769 runs at a strike rate of 145.37 in 35 games, including four fifties and a best score of 65. He amassed 108 runs in four IPL 2026 games.
